Pastor Dave Yinger
Pastor Dave
Pastor David Yinger, who prefers to be called Pastor Dave, was born and raised in Portsmouth, Ohio. His father, Gerald, was an Ordained Elder serving in the West Ohio Conference, Van Wert, up until the time of his death in January of 1996. Dave’s mother, Doris, has moved back to the Van Wert area from Piqua after suffering a heart attack in October of 2016.

After graduating from Piqua High School, Dave attended Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky., earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Ministries. He went on to receive a Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1997. Dave has been serving in the West Ohio Conference since graduation and became an Ordained Elder in June of 2001.

Dave’s wife, Julie, was born in Decatur, Indiana, as a middle child with two brothers. She is a 1991 graduate of Bellmont High School, and to this day, her family remains in Indiana. Dave and Julie met on a blind date in June of 2000 and have been happily married since August 4, 2001. They have no children but do have a 25-year old cockatiel bird named Samuel.

  1. What are some of your hobbies?
Dave enjoys everything to do with trains: taking rides on trains, watching them roll by, learning more about trains and their history through books and videos.

  2. Favorite movie? Sports team?
Dave likes to follow Ohio sports teams, including the OSU Buckeyes (football and basketball), as well as the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals.

  3. What’s the last good book you read?
“The last great book I reads was Spirit-Filled Jesus: Live by His Power, by Mark Driscoll.”

  4. If you could take a dream vacation anywhere in the world where would you go?
“A dream vacation for Julie and I would be to go to Alaska and ride the Alaska Railroad passenger train around the state.”

  5. Do you have a go-to scripture passage?
My life verse as a Christian is Philippians 4:13. I hold to this verse daily in my life whether going through good times or going through difficult times. I also hold to the words of Colossians 3:12-17 for strength and wisdom in my life.”

  6. How do you relax at the end of a busy day?
“Julie and I enjoy spending time together, relaxing at the end of the day. It is very important to us to spend time together.”

  7. In your view, what does it mean to be a Christian today?
“I strongly believe being a Christian today means that you spend time each day with the Lord, in prayer and in reading the Bible. Also, it’s a daily commitment to live your faith out among all people through your words and actions. We are called to. be his witnesses as well, to be willing and passionate about sharing our faith in the Lord with a friend, family member or stranger. My hope is that they will discover the importance of having a personal relationship with the Lord.”
