The West Liberty United Methodist Church is hosting a one night session to help navigate the holidays after losing a loved one. "Surviving the Holidays" will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the church (202 W. Newell Street). All are welcomed.

GriefShare is a 13-week seminar and support group designed to help rebuild after losing a loved one--offering help, encouragement and hope. There is a registration fee of $5.

Tuesdays—August 22- November 14, 6:30 p.m.

Our 20th Annual Ice Cream Social will be held at the church on Saturday, July 22nd from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. This year's Ice Cream Social will benefit Alex Griffin, an 8-year-old Triad third grader who will be getting a kidney from his mother this fall.
The community event is also being sponsored by The West Liberty Church of Christ, Grace Chapel and the West Liberty Lions Club, with the addition of Oak Grove Mennonite Church and the West Liberty United Presbyterian Church, and a donation of pies from the West Liberty First Church of God.
Alex is a son of Chuck and Heather Griffin of Cable and has 3 brothers. The oldest is Caleb, who lives in Findlay. Nick will be a freshman at Triad this fall. Alex’s twin brother, Joe, is also a third grader at Triad.
Mr. Griffin is a 2002 graduate of West Liberty-Salem and a son of Glenn and Joyce (Shoemaker) Griffin, who live in Kingscreek. Mrs. Griffin graduated from Ridgemont High School in 2000 and is a daughter of Bill and Beverly Minix of Ridgeway.
Alex and Joe were born at 35 weeks and were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital immediately. Joe was kept a week, but Alex was there two weeks due to Respiratory Distress and Pneumothorax. He also has Congenital Heart Disease. At the age of 3 he was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, which has led to the need for a new kidney. At this time his kidneys are functioning at 17 percent. He has been hospitalized 22 times, had four surgeries, 22 rounds of Plasmapherisis and four rounds of Chemotherapy, along with several other heart and internal conditions.
The ice cream social’s a la carte menu will consist of chicken and noodles; hot chicken, sloppy-jo, hot dog and coney dog sandwiches; baked beans; potato, pasta, apple and Jell-o salads; creamy and sweet and sour slaw; cucumbers and onions, pies, cakes, drinks and homemade ice cream.
Entertainment will be provided by Bill Purk, Bob McPherson and Friends. Those unable to attend can help by sending a check to the West Liberty United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 606, West Liberty, Ohio and writing “benefit” in the memo. For more information, call Nancy Dowden at 937-465-4219.
West Liberty United Methodist Church gets ready for Heritage Sunday during the Bicentennial Weekend for the town of West Liberty. Townsfolk were encouraged to dress in period costumes for a day of storytelling, history, live music, an old fashioned tent meeting, a community picnic and photo. Happy 200th Birthday West Liberty!
Our 2017 Mother's Day weekend Mother-Daughter Banquet was a great success. Fun was had by all. There was great food, fun company and the program on "aprons" by Becky Ortman was engaging and entertaining.
Remarks from participants during the event include, "Fantastic!" and "Best fun I have had in a while!" Thank you to everyone who attended. We're already looking forward to next year's event!
The Blessing of the Bikes is coming to West Liberty United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 30 from 1-2pm.
Kids come from around the neighborhood to have their bikes blessed and watch the "Blue Knights" motocycles lead motocyclists around Logan County to the church to raise money for the Logan County Homeless Shelter.
Support the kids as they learn to enjoy riding bicycles in their community. Helping the Logan County Homeless Shelter and safety and fun for all bicycle riders.
Palm Sunday Worship is at 9:30 am. We are also doing a worship service at Green Hills Foundation Hall at 2:30 pm.

The West Liberty community is again planning to help a local family with proceeds from the 19th annual Ice Cream Social to be held 4-7:30 p.m. July 23 at the West Liberty United Methodist Church, 202 W. Newell St. This year the West Liberty United Methodist Church, the West Liberty United Church of Christ and the West Liberty Lions Club are joined by Grace Chapel Church to help the Jon and Shannon McGill family.
Shannon McGill has had migraine headaches for two years. She developed the headaches after a dental procedure to remove a chipped tooth resulted in damage to the nerve along her jaw. She worked for the Sellman Insurance Group as an agent, but left the job due to pain medicine affecting her ability to think and the pain affecting her ability to function.
After many visits to neurologists and the emergency room, when the pain became severe, she was referred to the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. It is associated with St Joseph’s Hospital for inpatient care. She has spent a total of seven weeks in the hospital since February, in addition to outpatient visits. The expenses of the trips to Chicago and the loss of her income has strained the family’s financial situation and increased the headaches.
Her husband is a son of Dave and Patty McGill and has been a resident of West Liberty since high school. He has taught Special Education classes at West Liberty-Salem for 10 years and was at Mac-A-Chee Learning Center for eight years. He is the defensive coordinator for the West Liberty-Salem High School football team. He attended Campbellsville University in Kentucky, where he met Shannon, who came from Marietta and is the daughter of Debra and the late Wayne Close.
The McGills’ three children attend West Liberty-Salem. Their oldest daughter, Dierdre, will be a junior this fall and is on the varsity soccer and softball teams. Isaiah, their son, will be an eighth grader and plays football and basketball and is a sprinter on the track team. Their youngest is Audrey, who will be a seventh grader. She plays trumpet in the band and is on the soccer team.
The a-la-carte menu will consist of chicken and noodles, hot chicken, sloppy joe and hot dog sandwiches, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, pasta salad, cucumbers and onions, apple salad, Jell-o, pie, cake, drinks and homemade ice cream. All proceeds will go to the family. There will be live entertainment.
